Terms of service

These terms of service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Fictionite and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. Permitted content, monetisation limits, and labelling are also described in our Content policy.

1. The Service

The Service allows users to read, publish, and interact with fiction and related content. Features may change over time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

2. Accounts

You may need an account. You are responsible for your credentials and for activity under your account. You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date. You must be old enough to enter a binding contract where you live, or use the Service only with a parent or guardian’s permission where required.

3. Your content

Copyright stays with you. Copyright and all other intellectual property rights in the fiction and other works you publish vest in you, the author. We do not take ownership of your works. We will not amend these Terms to claim copyright or ownership in your works.

Limited licence to display. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, store, reproduce, and display your content only as needed to show your book to users when they access or request it through the Service (for example opening a novel, chapter, or page)—including ordinary technical steps such as delivery, formatting, and caching. That licence is for operating the Service for those user-directed views, not a broad grant for unrelated exploitation of your work beyond what the Service reasonably requires and what you choose in your account settings.

Take down at any time. You may unpublish, remove, or delete your book or other content at any time using the tools we provide, or by asking us if you need help. We will stop making removed content available to readers, subject to short technical propagation delays and any retention strictly required by law or for security and integrity (for example encrypted backups with limited access).

You represent that you have the rights to grant that licence and that your content does not violate law or third-party rights.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Service in ways that violate our Content policy (including the prohibition on child sexual abuse material).

You agree not to:

  • break the law or infringe others’ intellectual property or privacy;
  • harass, threaten, or harm others, or distribute malware or spam;
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to systems, accounts, or data;
  • scrape or overload the Service in ways we do not permit;
  • circumvent security, rate limits, or technical restrictions.

5. Moderation and termination

We may remove content or suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, pose risk, or are required by law. Authors may remove their own works at any time as described in “Your content” above. You may stop using the Service at any time.

6. Disclaimers

The Service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. User-generated content is the responsibility of the person who posted it.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we and our affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or goodwill. Our aggregate liability for claims arising from the Service is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us in the twelve months before the claim or fifty dollars (USD), except where liability cannot be limited by law.

8. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms as the Service evolves or the law requires. The current version is always posted here with a “Last updated” date so you can see what changed and when. We will not use a Terms update to claim copyright or ownership over works you have published on the Service (as further described under “Your content” above).

Material changes

If an update materially changes your rights or obligations (for example fees you pay, how your content is licensed to us, liability limits, or dispute resolution), we will give you reasonable advance notice before it takes effect—such as a prominent notice on the Service, an email to the address on your account, or both—unless we must apply a change immediately for legal, safety, or security reasons. The notice will include or link to the revised Terms and the effective date.

Non-material changes

Minor updates (for example wording clarifications, typos, or describing new non-binding features) may be posted without separate notice beyond updating this page and the “Last updated” date.

If you disagree

If you do not accept revised Terms once they are in effect, you must stop using the Service. Where you have an account, you may also close or delete it. We do not rely on “silent” acceptance without giving you a fair chance to read material changes first, as described above.

9. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to the operator of Fictionite, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Courts in that jurisdiction have exclusive venue unless otherwise required by mandatory law.
